# Manage AJAX Forms with Neutral TS

This skill guides you through the creation and management of forms using Neutral TS's built-in AJAX capabilities, as well as integrating them with Modals.

**Key Rules:**

- **IMPORTANT**: If a form is submitted using `fetch()` without using Neutral TS automated classes, you must explicitly set the `Requested-With-Ajax: true` header.
- **IMPORTANT**: When creating a modal, use standard Bootstrap 5 modal structure. Let the content of `.modal-body` load via Neutral's `{:fetch;...:}` with `visible` event.
- **IMPORTANT**: All user-facing text must be wrapped in `{:trans; ... :}` for internationalization.
- **IMPORTANT**: Every `content-snippets.ntpl` file must end with `{:^;:}` (render trigger).
- **IMPORTANT**: AJAX response templates (`ajax/content-snippets.ntpl`) must NOT include `{:data; ... :}`. Only page-level templates include data files.
- If you need additional context, read `docs/templates-neutrats-ajax.md` or `docs/ajax-neutral-requests.md`.
- Look at `src/component/cmp_6000_examplesign` for a complete working example.
- The component `cmp_6000_examplesign` might be disabled. Look for it as `src/component/cmp_6000_examplesign` or `src/component/_cmp_6000_examplesign`.

### URL-to-Directory Mapping

The directory structure under `neutral/route/root/` mirrors the URL structure relative to the component's base route (from `manifest.json`). For example, if the manifest route is `/example-sign`:

## 2. Schema Configuration

### 2.1 Route Schema (`route/schema.json`)

Define form validation rules in `route/schema.json` under `data.current_forms`:

**Schema Fields:**

**Note:** `pattern` is used for HTML5 client-side validation attributes. `regex` is used for server-side validation. Both can be defined for the same field.

## 3. Template Architecture

### 3.1 index-snippets.ntpl (Auto-loaded)

This file is auto-loaded for all component routes. Use it to include shared form snippets and override template slots:

### 3.2 form-snippets.ntpl (Core File)

This is the main file where all form-related snippets are defined. It contains:

1. Forms utility include
2. Error snippet generation (for each form)
3. Form snippet (the actual `<form>` with fields)
4. Error display snippet
5. Container snippet (coalesce logic: success/error/form)
6. Content snippet (full page wrapper around container)
7. Modal snippet (optional)

Replace `cmp_uuid` with your component's UUID from `manifest.json` (e.g., `mycomponent_abc123`), and `my_form` with your form name from `schema.json`.

#### 3.2.1 Forms Utility Include

Always include the forms utility at the top:

#### 3.2.2 Error Snippet Generation

For **each form** defined in your schema, add an error generation block. This iterates over validation errors set by the dispatcher and generates `is-invalid:fieldname` and `error-msg:fieldname` snippets:

**What this generates** (for each field with an error):
- `{:snip; is-invalid:fieldname :}` → outputs the CSS class `is-invalid` (Bootstrap validation)
- `{:snip; error-msg:fieldname :}` → outputs the error message HTML

If a field has no error, these snippets render as empty strings.

#### 3.2.3 Form Snippet

The form snippet defines the actual form HTML wrapped in a `{:fetch;:}` tag:

**Key patterns in form fields:**

#### 3.2.4 Error Display Snippet

A snippet for showing general form errors (not field-specific):

#### 3.2.5 Container Snippet (Coalesce Pattern)

The container snippet uses `{:coalesce;:}` to show the first non-empty result. This controls the form lifecycle (success → error → default form):

**How `{:coalesce;:}` works:** It evaluates each option in order and renders the **first** one that produces non-empty output. If `form_result->status` is not set (initial load or field validation errors), options 1 and 2 produce nothing, so option 3 (the form) is shown — with any field-level errors rendered inline.

**Alternative success patterns:**
- Redirect/reload: `{:snip; util:reload-page-self :}` (used in login example)
- Conditional: `{:bool; SOME_FLAG >> success_content :}` (check a custom flag)

#### 3.2.6 Content Snippet (Full Page Wrapper)

Wraps the container with page-level UI (cards, navigation, etc.):

**How the modal AJAX flow works:**
1. Modal opens → `visible` event triggers GET to `/subroute/ajax/<ltoken>`
2. Server returns the **form-container** snippet (with coalesce logic)
3. Spinner is replaced with the rendered form
4. User submits → form's `event=form` POSTs via AJAX to the same URL
5. Server processes and returns updated form-container (success/error/re-rendered form)
6. Content updates within the modal

**Note:** The modal's `visible` fetch and the standalone page's form both use the **same AJAX route and response template**. No duplication needed.

### 3.3 Page Templates

**Critical rules for AJAX responses:**
- Return the **container snippet** (with coalesce logic), NOT just the form
- Do NOT include `{:data; ... :}` — data comes from the dispatcher/schema
- Do NOT add wrapper `<div>` elements — the container snippet handles that
- Must end with `{:^;:}`

**Route naming conventions:**
- Page route: `defaults={"route": "subroute"}` — matches the directory under `root/`
- AJAX route: `defaults={"route": "subroute/ajax"}` — matches `root/subroute/ajax/`
- The `route` parameter value maps to the template directory structure

**Key request handler methods (inherited from `FormRequestHandler`):**

| `valid_form_validation()` | Validates POST fields against `schema.json` rules |

**Error handling properties:**

| Property | Purpose |
|----------|---------|
| `self.error["form"]["fieldname"]` | Set to `"true"` to mark field as having a form-level error |
| `self.error["field"]["fieldname"]` | Set to a translation ref string for the field error message |
| `self.schema_data["form_result"]` | Dict with `status` (`"success"` or `"fail"`) and optional `message` |
| `self.schema_data["CONTEXT"]["POST"]` | Dict of submitted POST data |

**How error messages work:**
- `any_error_form_fields("ref:my_form_error")` auto-generates error messages by appending the error type:
  - `ref:my_form_error_required` — field is required but empty
  - `ref:my_form_error_minlength` — value too short
  - `ref:my_form_error_maxlength` — value too long
  - `ref:my_form_error_regex` — doesn't match regex pattern
  - `ref:my_form_error_value` — doesn't match expected value
  - `ref:my_form_error_set` — field should not be present
- Add translations for each of these keys in your locale files
- For custom errors, set `self.error["field"]["fieldname"]` to any translation ref string

### 5.1 Syntax

## 6. Modal Integration

### 6.1 Define Modal in form-snippets.ntpl

See section 3.2.7 above. Key points:
- Use standard Bootstrap 5 modal markup
- Place `{:fetch;|url|visible||class|:}` inside `.modal-body`
- Show a spinner as initial content
- The `visible` event loads the form only when the modal opens

### 6.2 Place Modal in Page Template

Use `{:moveto; </body >> :}` to move modals to end of `<body>` (required for Bootstrap z-indexing):

### 6.3 Trigger Modal

Use standard Bootstrap 5 data attributes:

## 7. Advanced Features

### 7.1 FToken (Anti-Bot Token)

FToken is an optional client-side anti-bot mechanism that generates a token based on user interactions.

**Schema additions** (in `route/schema.json`):

Use `self.view.add_cookie()` to set cookies from the dispatcher:

## 8. Complete Workflow Summary

### Initial Page Load (GET)
1. User visits `/component-route/subroute`
2. Flask route creates dispatcher with `ltoken=None`, sets `dispatch_result=True`
3. Template renders: `data.json` → `content-snippets.ntpl` → content snippet → form-container → form snippet
4. `{:fetch;|url|form|...|:}` creates a `<form>` element with fields rendered server-side
5. No POST data yet, so fields are empty and no errors shown

### Form Submission (POST via AJAX)
1. User fills form and clicks submit
2. `{:fetch;:}` intercepts and POSTs to `/subroute/ajax/<ltoken>`
3. Flask POST route creates dispatcher, calls `dispatch.post()`
4. Dispatcher validates tokens → schema rules → custom logic
5. **If validation fails:** `post()` returns `False`, errors are set in `self.error`, template re-renders form with error messages inline
6. **If custom logic fails:** Set `self.schema_data["form_result"] = {"status": "fail", "message": "..."}`, return `False`
7. **If success:** Set `self.schema_data["form_result"] = {"status": "success"}`, return `True`
8. Template renders `ajax/content-snippets.ntpl` → form-container with coalesce:
   - Success → show success message
   - Fail → show error message
   - Default → show form with field errors
9. Client updates the form area with the response

### Modal Flow
1. User clicks modal trigger button
2. Modal opens → `visible` event fires → GET to `/subroute/ajax/<ltoken>`
3. Flask GET route creates dispatcher, calls `dispatch.get()` (validates LTOKEN)
4. Template renders `ajax/content-snippets.ntpl` → form-container → form
5. Client replaces spinner with rendered form inside modal
6. Form submission follows the same POST flow (steps 1-9 above), updating within the modal
