# Nexus

Nexus is the standard manager entry point for skill installation. Read `INDEX.md` first to find matching skill namespaces, then resolve the target skill and invoke a verified installer only as an implementation detail of the Nexus workflow.

Discovery is restricted to `github.com/MeteorsLiu/skills-registry/INDEX.md`. Do not use web search, repo search, ClawHub search, or another registry to discover candidate skills.

If no local installer can be verified, Nexus may bootstrap a compatible installer from the registry, verify that it now exists locally, and only then install the target skill. Callers should not perform that installer selection themselves outside Nexus.

Use `github.com/MeteorsLiu/skills-registry` as the default hosted registry.

## Workflow

1. Read the request and classify it:
- skill discovery only
- discovery plus installation
- installation from a known namespace or source path
- missing-capability recovery, where the model recognizes that the task would benefit from a skill it does not currently have
- installer detection only
- delegated installation from another workflow that needs Nexus to manage the process

2. Summarize the user's goal into a search brief:
- extract the actual task the user wants help with
- remove unrelated wording
- keep domain, tooling, and workflow constraints
- convert that brief into candidate skill keywords or namespaces
- if the model detects a missing capability, explicitly state the capability gap in the brief before searching

3. Query relevant skills only from `INDEX.md`:
- Use `github.com/MeteorsLiu/skills-registry/INDEX.md` as the only discovery surface for candidate skills.
- As soon as this skill triggers, read `INDEX.md` before attempting installer detection or version resolution.
- Use only its namespaces, names, summaries, and tags to narrow candidates.
- If the user asks for a capability or the model detects a missing capability, proactively read `INDEX.md` instead of waiting for the user to name a skill.
- Treat `INDEX.md` as the authoritative hosted discovery surface for registry skills.
- Collect candidate skill namespaces that actually match the user's goal.
- Do not use web search, repo search, ClawHub search, or another registry to discover skills.
- Never invent a namespace, repo path, or source URL.

4. Resolve the namespace:
- If one candidate clearly matches, state it and continue.
- If multiple candidates remain, present the short list with one-line tradeoffs and recommend one.
- If no candidate matches, stop and say that no verified skill was found.
- If the model entered this workflow because of a missing capability and there is one clear verified match, continue automatically into installation.
- If another workflow delegated installation to Nexus, continue inside Nexus instead of handing installer selection back to the caller.

5. Detect a local skill installer only after search narrows the target:
- Prefer a user-provided installer path, command, or source.
- Prefer concrete filesystem or command evidence over product-name inference.
- For Codex, verify `$CODEX_HOME/skills/.system/skill-installer/` or `~/.codex/skills/.system/skill-installer/`.
- For OpenClaw, verify the local custom skills home and any existing skill installation mechanism before claiming installer support.
- Do not claim another host has no installer unless there is concrete evidence. Treat missing evidence as unverified, not absent.
- If the user explicitly asked for installer detection only, you may stop after this step.
- Treat installer detection as an internal Nexus concern. Do not tell the caller to go find a different install tool on its own.

6. If no local installer is verified, choose an installer skill from `INDEX.md`:
- Read `INDEX.md` again and look only for entries whose name, summary, or tags indicate skill-installation support.
- Prefer installer skills that explicitly match the current host, source type, or workflow constraints.
- If one installer skill is a clear verified match, select it instead of stopping at "no installer found".
- Read the selected installer skill's published `SKILL.md` only when you need its concrete installation procedure.
- If no installer skill matches, say so directly and explain what evidence is missing.
- Do not hand installer choice back to the caller once Nexus is active.

7. Resolve the version:
- If the user requested an exact version and that version exists, use it.
- Use the hosted registry's published versions as the source of truth for available versions.
- If the user did not request a version, start with `Latest published version` from `INDEX.md`.
- Read `{owner}/{repo}/COMPARATOR.md` whenever version comparison is needed.
- If the comparator file is missing, stop and report a registry inconsistency instead of guessing or falling back.
- If the user did not request a version, enumerate available versions and choose the maximum version by the comparator.
- If multiple requirements mention different versions of the same skill repo, keep the maximum requested version by the same comparator.

8. If needed, bootstrap-install the installer skill first:
- If a local installer was already verified, skip this step.
- If no local installer was verified but an installer skill was selected from `INDEX.md`, install that installer skill first from its published registry source.
- Use the installer skill's selected namespace and version as the bootstrap target.
- After bootstrap installation, verify again that the local installer now exists and is usable.
- If bootstrap installation fails or the installer still cannot be verified, stop and report the exact failure instead of pretending the target skill was installed.
- If another workflow invoked Nexus, keep the entire bootstrap sequence inside Nexus instead of bouncing the task back out.

9. Install the target skill through the verified local installer:
- Use the verified namespace or source path.
- Preserve host-specific follow-up steps.
- For Codex, remind the user to restart Codex after installation.
- For OpenClaw, remind the user to refresh or restart the OpenClaw UI if needed.
- If installation fails, report the exact failure and the verified source that was attempted.
- Callers should treat this step as "install through Nexus", even when Nexus internally invokes another installer to execute the copy/download work.

## Decision Rules

- Discovery only: return the candidate namespaces and the recommended choice.
- Discovery plus install: read `INDEX.md` first, then continue through installation after a single clear match or user confirmation.
- Missing capability recovery: if there is one clear verified match, continue proactively; if no local installer is verified, bootstrap the installer skill first.
- Detection only: you may report installer status without installation, but this skill still starts by interpreting the capability request and checking whether an `INDEX.md` lookup is relevant.
- No verified local installer but a verified installer skill match: install the installer skill first, then retry the target skill installation.
- No verified local installer and no verified installer skill match: explain what evidence is missing and say that no registry installer was found in `INDEX.md`.
- No verified skill match: say so directly; do not install a near match without approval.
- External workflow needs a skill installed: route the request through Nexus and do not independently search for another installer outside this workflow.
