# GitMemo: Auto-sync AI Conversations to Git

GitMemo automatically records your conversations with AI agents as Markdown files and syncs them to a Git repository. It supports both Claude Code and Cursor.

> **Note:** Installing this skill via `npx skills add` only adds the skill reference. To actually use GitMemo, you need to install the CLI and run initialization — see below.

## Quick Start (Required)

```bash
# Step 1: Install the CLI binary
bash <(curl -fsSL https://github.com/sahadev/GitMemo/raw/main/scripts/install.sh)

# Step 2: Initialize — sets up Git repo, editor config, MCP server, and SSH key
gitmemo init
```

`gitmemo init` will interactively guide you to:
1. **Choose your editor** (Claude Code / Cursor / both)
2. **Enter your Git remote URL** (for syncing conversations)
3. **Generate an SSH key** (add to your repo's Deploy Keys)

After init, try `/save` right away — no restart needed. If it doesn't work, restart your editor session.

### Specify editor directly (non-interactive)

## MCP Tools

GitMemo provides an MCP server with these tools:

| `cds_search` | Search conversations and notes by keyword |
| `cds_recent` | List recent conversations |
| `cds_read` | Read a specific conversation or note |
| `cds_note` | Create a scratch note |
| `cds_daily` | Append to today's daily journal |
| `cds_manual` | Create or update a manual document |
| `cds_stats` | Get conversation and note statistics |
| `cds_sync` | Trigger git sync (commit + push) |

## How It Works

GitMemo injects into your editor's native infrastructure — no background process needed:

**Claude Code:** CLAUDE.md instruction + PostToolUse Hook + MCP Server
**Cursor:** Cursor Rules (.mdc) + cds_sync MCP tool + MCP Server

## Data Structure

All data is plain Markdown. Readable with any editor. Your data stays in YOUR Git repo.
