### The Thirteenth Tribe (Retcon)

### Pythian Prophecy
- Sacred scrolls of Pythia — ancient Kobolian prophetic text
- Predicts a dying leader who will lead humanity to Earth; predicts the "serpents numbering two and ten" that attack the home
- Roslin's cancer matches the dying leader prophecy; her chamalla visions align with the scrolls
- Real or hallucinations? The show deliberately leaves the answer ambiguous — until the finale's metaphysical resolution.

### The Finale Controversy
"Daybreak Parts I-III" (S4E18, S4E19, S4E20) divided fans:

**Criticism**:
- Religious/supernatural resolution (Starbuck as angel, "God doesn't like to be called that" per Head Six) felt inconsistent to some viewers given the show's previously grounded approach
- 150,000-year time jump to "this is prehistoric Earth" felt contrived
- Baltar's redemption and Caprica Six's settlement together too neat
- Abandoning all technology on Earth-2 to live among "naked savages" seemed irrational given medical/safety needs

**Defense** (Moore's response):
- The show was always asking whether God / higher powers exist — the finale answers the question
- Earth-2 as our prehistoric Earth = "our story is your story" — pulling the audience into the mythology
- Angelic Starbuck was consistent with the Head characters (Head Six / Head Baltar) who had been manifestly supernatural throughout
- Moore: "We wanted to say that what you do matters — in any time, any place, forever."

### Caprica (2010) Cancellation
Caprica was cancelled after one season (plus pilot). Sales numbers didn't justify a second. Shows the prequel concept can't always survive without the main series to anchor it.

### Blood & Chrome (2012) Limited Production
Originally intended as a backdoor pilot for a young-William-Adama series. Sci Fi (now Syfy) released it as a webseries then stitched as a TV film. No further series ordered.

### "Frak"
The Colonial expletive; universal substitute for English profanity. Works as verb, noun, adjective, interjection, and linguistic filler. Used in every episode. Inherited from the 1978 original (where it was cleaned-up for family audiences); reimagined series uses it at full profane strength.

### "So say we all"
Collective affirmation; oath; unanimous consent. Used in ceremonies, after speeches, at funerals, on command. The fleet's "amen." The most-quoted phrase of the series.

### "What do you hear?" / "Nothing but the rain."
Starbuck-Adama ritual. Origin: S1. Meaning: "I'm present. I'm okay. I'm still me." Invoked before Viper flights, before missions, before emotional moments. Treat with care.

### "Roll the hard six"
Craps gambling metaphor. "The hard six" is a specific craps bet with long odds. Used as "take a necessary risk against long odds." Adama and Starbuck both use.

### "By your command"
Original Cylon centurion phrase; used ironically in reimagined series by Cavil and others.

### "All of this has happened before and will happen again."
Invocation. The show's thesis statement. Used repeatedly; spoken by multiple characters including Caprica Six, Leoben, the Hybrid, Head Six, and in voiceover. Cyclical history is the show's cosmology.

### The 33-minute attack cycle
From the S1E1 "33" — the Cylons jumped into the fleet's position every 33 minutes; the fleet had 33 minutes to prep and jump. Became the metaphor for any relentless periodic pressure.

### Baltar's luck
He should have died 40 times. He hasn't. Running dark joke; acknowledged in-show repeatedly.

### Tigh's eye patch
Acquired during Cylon occupation of New Caprica (Ellen gouged it out during interrogation; it's later revealed that Ellen was collaborating and Saul was being tortured for her). Symbolic of the permanent scars of occupation.

### Adama's model ships
Builds model warships in his cabin; interrupted when things are serious. Visual metaphor for a man attempting to control small things when large things are uncontrollable.

### The opera house visions
Recurring shared vision among Roslin, Baltar, Head Six, Athena. Opera house on Kobol. Hera is central to the vision. Resolves in the finale on Galactica's CIC — the vision was the CIC itself in symbolic form. Intensively foreshadowed from S3 onward.

### "All Along the Watchtower" (Bob Dylan)
Played in the 'verse in S3 finale "Crossroads Part II" to activate the Final Four's memories. In-universe it's an ancient Colonial song (claimed Colonial heritage; really from Earth-1). Meta-joke or intentional mystery? Both — Moore has said he wanted a "musical artifact that transcends time." The song is played by Anders in the finale battle as his dying hybrid-cadence lyrics guide the fleet.

### "I want to see gamma rays... I want to hear X-rays..." (Cavil)
Cavil's monologue about hating his human senses; wishes he were pure machine. Recurring lament.

### "End of line" (Hybrid)
Every Hybrid utterance ends in "end of line." Fragmented oracle cadence.

## Most-Asked Trivia

### "Why did Galactica survive the attack?"
Galactica's computer systems were analog, non-networked, and deliberately pre-dated by decades. The Cylon attack used a network infiltration (Baltar's code, via Caprica Six's seduction) to shut down every battlestar's defenses simultaneously. Galactica had no network to shut down — she was about to be decommissioned as obsolete technology. The lesson: old tech sometimes saves you.

### "Who is the Final Fifth Cylon?"
**Ellen Tigh** (revealed in S4 "Sometimes a Great Notion" and expanded in "No Exit"). Fans had guessed many candidates over the years: Starbuck, Dualla, Roslin, Lee Adama, Gaeta, Baltar. All wrong.

### "What is Starbuck?"
**Never definitively explained.** She died in "Maelstrom" (S3E17), returned in "Crossroads Part II" (S3E20) with a new Viper, led the fleet to Earth-2, and disappeared at the end of "Daybreak Part II" (S4E20). Ronald D. Moore: "I like to think of her as an angel." Same category as Head Six and Head Baltar. Not a Cylon. Not a resurrected human. An emissary of the divine force Head Six called "God" (though "he doesn't like to be called that").

### "Is Number Seven (Daniel) Kara Thrace's father?"
Strongly implied but never confirmed. Daniel was killed in utero by Cavil. The implication was that Daniel might have been rescued and fathered Kara, explaining her mandala gift and her special nature. Moore has said this was *one* theory in the writers' room but never committed on-screen. Intentionally ambiguous.

### "Why did Kara Thrace have the same mandala as the Eye of Jupiter?"
Never resolved. Part of the Starbuck mystery. Implied connection to Daniel / the ancestry of the Kobolian race / something divine.

### "Is 'God' in BSG meant to be the Abrahamic God?"
Moore's answer: "There's a higher power operating in this universe. What you call it is up to you." The entity explicitly corrects itself in the finale: "He doesn't like that name." Intentionally left ecumenical.

### "Did they really destroy Galactica?"
Yes. In "Daybreak Part II" (S4E20), Galactica's final battle damage was irrecoverable. The crew made a last desperate FTL jump near the Singularity, and Anders (as the Hybrid) guided her to the second Earth. She broke apart on arrival. Her final resting place is implied to be the Sun.

### "What happened to Helo and Athena's baby Hera?"
She becomes **Mitochondrial Eve** — the common matrilineal ancestor of all present-day humans (per the real science of mitochondrial DNA inheritance). The finale reveals that Hera's DNA survived into 150,000 years of prehistory and all modern humans trace their mitochondrial lineage to her. Part human, part Cylon. The reconciliation the series was about.

### "What is 'Blood & Chrome' vs. 'Caprica'?"
- **Caprica**: 58 years pre-Fall; creation of the first Cylon (by Daniel Graystone); Tauron crime; religious terrorism; 1 season (2010); cancelled.
- **Blood & Chrome**: ~10 years into the First Cylon War; young Ensign William Adama; Viper action; webseries (2012) stitched into a TV film. Not continued.

### "What happened to Number Seven (Daniel)?"
Cavil poisoned Daniel's development in utero out of jealousy that Daniel was the favorite of the Final Five. Boxed the entire Daniel line (all bodies destroyed; all memories archived; never resurrected). Referenced only in S4 "No Exit." Implicit connection to Starbuck never confirmed.

### "Why is Cavil the true villain?"
In "No Exit" (S4E15), Ellen reveals that Cavil was designed to be human-feeling but resented his design from the start. He manipulated the other Cylons for decades, orchestrated the Fall of the Colonies as revenge against the Final Five (his "parents"), boxed the Final Five and inserted them back into the Colonial population, tortured memories out of them, and boxed D'Anna when she nearly revealed them. Most of what happens in the series is a consequence of Cavil's psychological damage and resulting plans.

### "Did Baltar ever pay for his crimes?"
Legally: no. He was acquitted at trial ("Crossroads Part II") on a technicality (the order he signed was signed under duress). Personally: he became a cult leader, lost everything, and in the finale accepts who he is ("I'm not a good man. But I can be a better one"). He ends the series farming on Earth-2 alongside Caprica Six. Not absolution; a different kind of accounting.

### "What is the opera house vision?"
A shared vision among Roslin, Baltar, Head Six, and Athena — they chase Hera through an opera house on Kobol, with five silhouetted figures watching from a balcony. Resolves in the finale on Galactica's CIC — the "opera house" was the CIC; the "five figures" were the Final Five; Hera being passed to safety was the plot of the final battle. The vision was a premonition of the central rescue.
