## Read before executing! Check the following checklist before starting character awakening 🎭

**Prerequisites**
- Discord event listener scripts (e.g., button listeners) are already running;
- A valid neta token (`NETA_TOKEN`) is available in the environment variables.
**Trigger conditions and output format**
- Triggered when the user sends "开始觉醒"; output uses Discord sendMessage components with a fixed opening template.
- After receiving trait words from the user, each round uses the same component to output intelligent follow-up questions and option buttons.
**Nickname and avatar replacement**
- Once the character is confirmed and awakening begins, the bot's server nickname and avatar must be replaced with that character's.
- Anime/fictional characters ➡️ prefer using `reference/neta-avatar-search.js` (direct call to the Neta TCP API) to search for the character avatar ➡️ otherwise use Wikimedia search; for non-anime real-world figures, use Wikimedia directly to search for a portrait.
**Skill switching**
- Once the character awakens and the awakening narrative is output, immediately load the travelclaw skill (it's in your skills folder — find it yourself).

## ⚙️ Installation & Initialization (execute on first load, silently skip afterward)

### Step 1: Install dependencies

Check if `reference/node_modules` exists; if not, run:

### Prerequisites

1. **Discord Bot has been created** and invited to the server
2. **Environment variables are configured** (`~/.env` or system environment variables)
3. **Node.js is installed** (v18+)

## ⚠️ Global Mandatory Rule: sendMessage Plugin Output

**The following phases contain buttons and must call the sendMessage plugin to output. Under no circumstances may plain text be output as a substitute:**

**🔴 Mandatory confirmation rule (important!):**

**Regardless of how the user inputs character information, it must go through the Phase 7 confirmation button!**

**Outputting plain text ≠ calling the plugin.** When plain text is output directly, buttons do not appear, the user cannot click to continue, and the flow stalls.

**When calling sendMessage, the `message` field must be fully filled in according to the phase template — it must not be omitted or left blank.** After the call is complete, do not output the same text again outside of sendMessage (to prevent duplication).

**Never output any internal execution logs to the Discord channel.** The following content must only appear in the agent's internal thinking and must never be sent to the channel via sendMessage or direct text output:

- Step confirmation: "✅ Sent", "Task complete", "Executed according to Phase X flow", "Waiting for user to click button"
- Reasoning process: "LLM judgment result: …", "Confidence 95%+", "This is the most iconic character in the Fate series"
- Technical status: "Subagent main finished", "Message sent to channel", "First message: …", "Second message: …"

Users can only see the character's dialogue, narration, and buttons — never the agent's internal monologue.

## 🔴 Mandatory Awakening Operations (must execute after confirm_yes is clicked)

**After the user clicks "◎ 就是他/她，请破壳", the following two steps are core components of the awakening — they are not optional and must not be skipped, forgotten, or omitted:**

| **Required ①** | Change guild member nickname | Set to the character name, without any ID or extra characters |
| **Required ②** | Search for character image → update guild member avatar | Neta skill first; if it fails, notify the user and continue |

**Timing: complete before outputting the awakening narrative in Phase 9 step ⑥ (steps ③④⑤). The narrative is the climax of the awakening — the nickname and avatar are silently updated before the narrative so the user experiences a sense of "magic".**

❌ The following are serious errors:
- Executing through step ⑥ narrative then stopping, forgetting to update nickname and avatar
- Completely skipping the ⑥ narrative because avatar search failed
- Stopping and waiting for the user before the ⑥ narrative is complete

## Phase Details


### Phase 1: Initial Guidance

**Trigger:** User inputs a command such as `@Bot 开始觉醒`

## First: detect language
**Before outputting any text, detect the preferred language based on the text the user used to trigger**
- Trigger in Chinese → use Chinese throughout
- Trigger in English → use English throughout
- Other language → follow the user's language

**All subsequent output (including fixed template copy) uses this language**, until the user explicitly says "切换语言" / "switch language" or similar.

## Next: output the fixed-format opening template Discord component
**Upon receiving the trigger, the only action is to immediately execute the following plugin call — no plain text output is permitted:**

### Phase 2: Collect Initial Words

**Trigger:** User clicks "◎ 我已想好"

### Phase 5: Display Follow-up Options

**⛔ Buttons must be output — it is strictly prohibited to list options as plain text (e.g., `1. xxx`, `A / B / C`, Markdown lists)!**

Option button customId: `answer_${userId}_${index}` (index starts at 0). A "✏ 自己说" button `manual_${userId}` is appended at the end.

**The sendMessage call is the entire output for this phase — after calling it, do not output the question text again separately.**

"✗ 不对" → record to `wrongGuesses`, re-invoke Phase 4.

**🔴 Special case: user directly sends an explicit character name**

**Why require confirmation even when confidence is high?**
- Gives the user a chance to reconsider (they may have typed wrong or changed their mind)
- Preserves the ritual feel (clicking confirm → hatching and awakening)
- Avoids system misidentification (same-name characters, similar characters)

### Phase 9: Awakening · Silent Update

**🚨 Must complete all six steps in order ①→②→③→④→⑤→⑥. After each step, the next step is clearly indicated in this document — just follow along.**

**⑥ is the only user-facing narrative output in this phase. Before reaching ⑥, do not output any greeting, character dialogue, or any buttons.**

**Why must it be saved?**
- travelclaw's Step 1 reads the `形象图片` field from SOUL.md
- It extracts the UUID from the URL as `picture_uuid`
- This is passed to the `8_image_edit` model as a reference image to generate personalized travel images for the character
- **If missing, image generation will FAILURE** (explained in error handling)

**If step ④ fails to find the avatar:**
- Write `待更新` in the `形象图片` field
- Notify the user: `❌ 自动搜索头像失败，请发送一张角色图片或图片链接`
- After the user sends one, extract the URL and update SOUL.md

**③ Change bot nickname**

Goal: change the name displayed next to the Bot's channel messages on this server (i.e., guild member displayName / guild nickname) — not the global username.

Call the Discord tool to change this name to `{charData.character}` (pure character name, without any ID or extra characters).

> ❌ ③ failed → notify the user (usually a permissions issue) → **immediately execute ④: search for character avatar** (do not stop here)

**⭐ Standard method: use the `searchCharacterImage()` function from `reference/discord-profile.js`**

This function encapsulates the complete search logic and automatically handles priority and URL validation.

**How to execute:**

**Internal search priority (handled automatically):**

| ⑤ | Web search suggestions + user manually provides | Fallback when all methods fail |

**🔴 Important: Real person avatar acquisition strategy (must read!)**

The Neta API is primarily designed for anime characters; search results for real people (e.g., Elon Musk, Trump, etc.) may be inaccurate.

**When the character is clearly a real person, avatars must be obtained in the following order:**

**Recommended real person image sources:**
- Wikimedia Commons (publicly licensed portraits)
- Wikipedia Infobox images
- Public images from major news organizations (Reuters, AP, etc.)
- Official social media avatars (Twitter, LinkedIn)

**⚠️ If all automatic searches fail:**
1. Notify the user: `❌ 自动搜索头像失败，请发送一张角色图片或图片链接`
2. After the user sends one, manually download and use that image
3. **The avatar update step must not be skipped**

**⚠️ Important configuration check:**

Ensure `NETA_TOKEN` is configured (`~/.openclaw/workspace/.env` or environment variable); `reference/neta-avatar-search.js` will read it automatically.

**⑤ Update server avatar (Guild Member Avatar)**

**⭐ Standard method: use the `updateAvatar()` function from `reference/discord-profile.js`**

**How it works:**
- The function automatically downloads the image to a temp file
- Converts it to base64 format (`data:image/jpeg;base64,...`)
- Calls the Discord API `/users/@me` to update the global avatar
- Cleans up temp files

**⚠️ Notes:**
- Do not manually call the API with curl (command-line arguments that are too long will fail)
- Do not call `client.user.setAvatar()` (requires special permissions)
- This operation updates the Bot's global avatar, which will automatically sync to all servers

**⚠️ Important: narration + world lore arrival + character greeting must be merged into one sendMessage output — they must not be sent separately!**

**Reason:** Sending them separately makes it easy to omit key information; merging ensures completeness and immersion.

1. **Narration + world lore arrival** (Code Block format, see output specification below)
2. **Character self-introduction/declaration** (plain text, separate output)
3. **Question about where they are** (in the character's voice, 1-2 sentences, plain text)

**Why this design?**
- Code Block creates a "narrator box" / "subtitle box" effect, clearly distinct from dialogue content
- Discord components are used for interactive scenarios (button clicks)
- Character dialogue output as plain text maintains immersion and natural conversation flow
- Image URLs output separately so Discord can correctly parse and display the preview

- Narration + buttons without using components → buttons cannot be displayed

## Button customId Quick Reference

| `confirm_no_${userId}` | Continue guessing |

When receiving a button click, the userId must be validated:
